Railway Projects: Ulaka meets ECoR GM to discuss railway projects in Koraput | Bhubaneswar News
Koraput: Congress MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka met with Parmeshwar Funkwal, general manager (GM) of East Coast Railway (ECoR), in Bhubaneswar on Monday to discuss the early completion of several railway projects in the Koraput parliamentary segment.
The discussions covered a range of projects, including the Gunupur-Therubali railway line, the establishment of the Rayagada railway division, the construction of railway under bridges (RUBs), the introduction of new trains, and ensuring train stoppages at key stations.
Ulaka proposed holding quarterly review meetings on the progress of the Gunupur-Therubali railway line and the Rayagada railway division.
He also emphasised the urgency of expediting the land acquisition process for the Jeypore-Malkangiri and Jeypore-Nabarangpur railway lines, which are currently delayed due to slow progress. Besides, Ulaka called for the inclusion of Rayagada district’s Padmapur within the sanctioned Gunupur-Therubali railway line project, recognizing it as a critical link for the area.
A detailed discussion was held regarding the swift submission of a detailed project report (DPR) for the Gopalpur-Padmapur-Gumada railway line in Andhra Pradesh, with Gunupur proposed as the junction for both this line and the Gunupur-Therubali line. Other key points discussed included the submission of the DPR for the Gopalpur-Rayagada railway line and the enhancement of train speeds on the Naupada-Gunupur and Rayagada-Koraput stretches.
“Introduction of double lining and the creation of loop lines were suggested to reduce travel time, especially on the Rayagada-Koraput route,” said Ulaka.
