PWC pupils and teachers learn basics of population control | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: Students and faculty members of Patna Women’s College (PWC) learnt the basics of population control and demographic dividend through a series of prorgammes organised by different departments of the college to mark the World Population Day on Thursday.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) of the college also organised a speech contest on the topic — ‘India’s youthful population is an asset for the country’.As many as eight students from various departments participated in the contest and presented their points of views. Altogether 56 NSS volunteers attended the event under the leadership of NSS programme coordinator, Shahla Rehana.
Alisha Verma of the sociology department stood first, Shalini Singh of Hindi department came second and Ayushi Singh of political science department was adjudged third in the contest.
The Eco Task Force of PWC, in coordination with the zoology department, organised a slogan writing competition on the theme — ‘The future we want: population and sustainability’. Altogether 144 students, in groups of two, from different departments participated in the competition. The students displayed their creativity by coining interesting slogans on the subject. Faculty members Sapna Kumari, Neetu and Rajeev Ranjan served as the jury members. Deepika Shree and Akanksha Chaturvedi of zoology department were awarded the first prize, while Arya Shri and Raj Nandani of English department secured the second position.
The department of geography organised an inter-class debate competition on the topic ‘Role of education in managing population growth: effective or overrated’. As many as 17 students of semester III and V participated in the debate. The jury members were Nupur Sinha of psychology department, Apurba Paul of English department and Awadhesh Kumar of geography department.
