PURE announces entry into energy storage space

Hyderabad: Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) incubated electric mobility and battery technology player PURE on Tuesday announced its foray into the energy storage space with PuREPower that is targeted at the home, commercial, and grid applications.
The energy storage solutions will be manufactured by PURE at its facility located in Kandi, near IITH, where it has a capacity to manufacture 40,000 EVs per annum and around 200MWh of energy storage products, which it plans to scale up to 5-6 GWh per annum over the next five years, PURE founder and managing director Dr Nishanth Dongari said on Tuesday.
He said that while the cells for the energy storage products are currently imported, PURE is working on localising other components and is collaborating with institutions like IITH and ARCI for R&D in battery technology.
The company, which invested Rs 150-Rs 160 crore so far, plans to invest another Rs 400 crore over the next couple of years, he said, adding that PURE, which makes electric two-wheelers under the PURE EV brand, has already raised around Rs 200 crore so far by diluting less than 20% equity.
The energy storage offerings range from 3KVA to 15KVA for the home segment and 25KVA to 100KVA for the commercial segment. PURE also plans to enter the grid segment in 2026 with compact container-based products of up to 4MWh capacity with applications in state utilities, industrial consumers, micro-grids, and solar and wind parks and aimed at addressing large-scale energy challenges.
“As India’s grid infrastructure adapts to the rapid expansion of solar and wind energy, PuREPower Grid will play a pivotal role in stabilising the grid, managing peak loads, and enhancing renewable energy integration. By enabling frequency regulation, reducing transmission losses, and ensuring grid reliability, it aligns with India’s decarbonisation targets and will enhance its energy infrastructure for a sustainable future,” he said.
