PU employees call off strike, resume duties | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: The eight-day-long strike by members of the Patna University Employees’ Association (PUEA) in support of their 10-point demands was called off on Friday after the governor-cum-chancellor, Rajendra Vishwanth Arlekar, brokered peace between PU authorities and representatives of the striking employees.
The agreement was reached after the governor, who called the PU officials led by vice-chancellor, Ajay Kumar Singh, and representatives of striking employees led by PU Employees’ Union president, Subodh Kumar at Raj Bhawan on Thursday evening for a settlement. The governor discussed all 10 demands of the employees in detail and ended the stalemate by facilitating an agreement. He asked the authorities concerned to consider the employees’ genuine demands and persuaded the employees to end their strike in the best interest of students.
As soon as the agreement was signed by the university authorities and the employees on Friday, the employees opened the locks of the university office and resumed their duties. The locks of all the colleges and postgraduate departments of PU were also opened.
The university examinations, which were postponed by the authorities in the wake of employees’ strike, would resume from December 16 as per the old schedule. The papers in which examinations could not be held due to strike would be rescheduled later, said PU registrar Khagendra Kumar.
According to agreement, there would be no victimization of any employee for the strike period and the employees would compensate the work loss by attending their offices for three days on December 26, 27 and 28 during Christmas holidays.
