Property dealer, driver of e-rickshaw shot dead | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: A property dealer and a differently-abled e-rickshaw driver were shot dead in a brazen daylight attack in Samastipur’s Kalyanpur police station area on Saturday. The incident occurred near Muktapur when unidentified armed miscreants on a bike opened fire at the e-rickshaw carrying Vijay Kumar Gupta (55), a property dealer, and Ganesh Sahni (42), the driver.
The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival. Gupta, a resident of Gudri Bazaar, had hired Sahni to travel with a client to show a plot of land in Muktapur when the attack took place.
According to police, the shooting occurred around 12.45pm. ASP (sadar) Sanjay Kumar Pandey said, “Three miscreants on a bike ambushed the e-rickshaw and opened fire, shooting 3-5 rounds. Gupta and Sahni sustained fatal injuries, while the client, Sudhir Madan, managed to escape by jumping off the vehicle when the shooting began.”
Pandey added, “The police reached the spot immediately and took the victims to the hospital, where doctors pronounced them brought dead. Their bodies were sent to a govt hospital for post-mortem examination”
The police recovered three bullet shells from the crime spot. A forensic team and a dog squad were deployed for further investigation. “We are conducting raids to nab the accused by cordoning off the area. Vehicles are being checked and all evidence is being gathered,” Samastipur SP Ashok Mishra said.
Preliminary investigations point to a land dispute as the likely motive behind the attack. Rakesh Kumar Sinha, SHO of Kalyanpur police station, said, “Prima facie, it appears the miscreants intended to kill Gupta over a land dispute. They chased the e-rickshaw and fired multiple shots. Gupta was struck in the head and leg while Sahni, the driver, was also hit during the attack. The assailants fled towards Muktapur Bazaar Samiti after committing the crime.”
