Bhubaneswar: A professor of Sambalpur University was arrested by CBI on Saturday, along with nine others from different states, in connection with an alleged bribery case for providing a favourable NAAC rating to a private university in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
“The arrested persons comprised seven education professionals from various universities across the country who served as NAAC inspection team members.Maharana was one of the inspection team members,” a CBI source said.
The CBI recently filed a case against the Guntur-based educational institute’s office-bearers and NAAC inspection team members.
Bidhu Bhusan Mishra, Sambalpur University vice-chancellor, said he had no knowledge of the professor’s arrest as he was not present in Odisha at the time.
“I am not aware of the allegations against our professor. I will try to find out,” Mishra said.
