Patna: The chancellor’s secretariat has invited fresh applications for the appointment of vice-chancellors (VCs) in four more universities in the state. The process of appointment of new VCs in Munger University, Purnia University, Nalanda Open University and Bihar Animal Sciences University has been initiated by the Raj Bhawan, as the sitting VCs will be completing their terms soon.The last date for submission of online applications for these posts is June 28.
Meanwhile, the chancellor is yet to expedite the appointment of a regular VC in Patna University (PU). The panel of names recommended by the search committee for the appointment of the VC in PU had been submitted to the chancellor few months back, but it got delayed due to the parliamentary elections. Now, it is expected that the chancellor will appoint the new VC in consultation with the chief minister, said Raj Bhavan sources. VC of Nalanda Open University, K C Sinha, has been officiating as the PU’s VC for the last seven months following the completion of G K Chaudhary’s term.
Earlier, the chancellor’s secretariat had advertised the posts of VCs for seven universities in August last year. New incumbents in all the universities except PU were appointed in the last week of January this year. However, the vacant posts of pro-vice-chancellors in different universities have not been advertised.
The offices of pro-VCs in more than half a dozen universities, including Patna, B R A Bihar, L N Mithila, Aryabhatta Knowledge, Munger and B N Mandal universities are lying vacant for quite some time, but no initiative has been made to appoint new incumbents on these posts. As far as the requirements of qualifications, experience and age are concerned, they are almost the same for both the VC and Pro-VC.
