Probe ordered into suspected sunstroke death in Sambalpur | Bhubaneswar News

Sambalpur: Health authorities have ordered an investigation into the suspected sunstroke death of a 29-year-old man in Sambalpur district’s Rengali block on Sunday.
Anil Khandekar, a resident of Maulinagar, was found dead at his home. Superintendent of Rengali community health centre and the local tehsildar have been directed to prepare a detailed report to confirm the cause of death.
As temperatures soared to 43.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, Sambalpur received an orange warning of heatwave with isolated warm nights predicted for the next three days. The district headquarters hospital reported three cases of heat-related illness on Tuesday.
“Though no hospitalisations have occurred yet, heat-related cases are being treated at the OPD with ORS and appropriate medication,” said medical supervisor Surya Narayan Sahu.
The scorching heat has forced residents to seek refuge in AC spaces. “The temperature wasn’t this extreme five years ago,” said Krishna Gupta, a local. He blamed extensive tree-felling for development projects for the worsening situation.
