Private schools urge Revanth to reconsider fee regulation bill | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: The Telangana Recognised School Managements Association (TRSMA) has appealed to chief minister Revanth Reddy, expressing concerns over the Telangana private schools and junior colleges fee regulatory and monitoring commission draft bill, 2025. The association is calling for wider consultation to ensure a fair and sustainable fee regulation system.
TRSMA, which represents unaided private schools, supports transparent fee regulation but warns that the current draft could negatively impact school operations. The bill mandates that fees be determined by the parent-teacher association (PTA) and approved by the fee regulatory commission, with revisions linked to the consumer price index (CPI) every two years. Schools fear financial instability and potential closures due to the lack of autonomy in financial decisions.
The association also argues that the bill enforces a uniform fee structure without considering variations in infrastructure, board affiliations, and operational costs, which could place additional financial strain on institutions. It introduces stringent penalties, including fines up to 10 lakh and withdrawal of recognition, creating an atmosphere of fear and discouraging private investment in education. Additionally, the mandatory requirement for 100% fee collection through banks is seen as impractical, particularly in rural areas.
TRSMA urges the govt to engage all stakeholders before finalising the bill, emphasising the need for a balanced and inclusive policy that safeguards both student interests and the sustainability of private schools.
