Prez seeks diaspora support for Viksit Bharat ‘mission’
Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday exhorted the gathering at the valedictory session of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas here that achieving the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat‘ by 2047 is a national mission that requires proactive participation from every Indian, including those living abroad.
Recognising the Indian diaspora‘s contribution towards achieving a developed India, she said they are an integral part of the vision. “Their global presence gives them a unique perspective, and their achievements place them in a position to significantly contribute to the realisation of a developed India,” she added.
She further said, “As we celebrate the achievements of our Pravasi Bharatiya family, let us look forward to the future with hope and determination. Together, we can build a Viksit Bharat, a nation that stands tall on the global stage and continues to be a beacon of light to the world.”
She said the Indian diaspora represents the best of the country, which drew a huge applause from the 5,000-strong overseas audience. She said the diaspora carried with them not just the knowledge and skills acquired in this sacred land, but also the values and ethos that have been the foundation of our civilisation for millennia.
“Be it in the fields of technology, medicine, arts or entrepreneurship, the Indian diaspora has made a mark that the world acknowledges and respects,” she added, lauding their multi-dimensional contribution.
She referred to India’s timeless philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family) and said the Viksit Bharat vision is about creating an ecosystem that not only meets our needs but also contributes to global well-being. “We seek to be a nation that balances economic progress with social justice and environmental stewardship, ensuring a bright future for generations to come. The Indian diaspora would play an essential role in achieving this vision.”
While congratulating the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awardees, she said the diaspora’s success stories are not just a matter of pride for India, but they also inspire millions across the world to strive for excellence.
Murmu congratulated Christine Kangaloo, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, one of the receipents of the award. “Her outstanding contributions in leading her nation, with a special focus on women and the Indian diaspora, have set a high benchmark on the world stage,” Murmu said.
She said that Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has become more than just an event. “It is a platform where ideas converge, collaborations are forged, and the bonds between India and its diaspora are strengthened,” she said.
In an appeal to the Odia diaspora to be a part and parcel of state’s development and to steer the wheel of success, chief minister Mohan Majhi said, “Odia Asmita has achieved new heights. We seek your cooperation in taking the Odia culture and heritage to the world stage.”
He said through the convention, Odisha is more open to the world than ever before. “To take forward projects and investment from the Odia diaspora, my govt has decided to appoint a nodal officer from the Odia language literature and culture department,” the CM said.
