Prevention Of Violence: Call for passage of Bill protecting doctors gains momentum | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: Doctors have intensified demand for the passage of the Prevention of Violence Against Healthcare Professionals and Clinical Establishments Bill, 2022, in the aftermath of the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata.
Suman Kumar Sahoo, president of the resident doctors’ association at AIIMS Bhubaneswar said the Bill needs to be passed in Parliament by convening a special session.“Junior doctors, interns, and senior residents have been staging dharna demanding the passage of this Bill. Had the this Bill been passed in 2022, such a violent incident would not have happened,” Sahoo said.
He said the Bill advocates stringent action against those who attack doctors and healthcare providers.
Ram Naresh Yadav, president of the resident doctors’ association at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, said Centre should bring the Act to stop such violent attacks on healthcare professionals. “If we do not work in a safe environment, our confidence will go down,” Yadav said.
