Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations to get underway from today | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: From Thursday, the city will go into a festive mood in view of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), which will be organised here from Jan 8 to 10. While three Patha Utsav or street festivals (one in each zone) will be organised on three weekends in the run-up to the mega event, there will be talent shows in each ward from Thursday. The zone-level and pan-city-level talent shows will be organised later, involving the selected contestants from the zonal level.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), which will organise the talent shows, said talents in various domains will be screened at ward levels. “There will be debate, art, dance, song, and quiz contests in different age groups. These contests will be organised in schools, colleges, and universities. BMC will coordinate with the institutions,” said a BMC officer.
In the second leg, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and societies of apartments will be involved for ramp shows and unique talent shows. “There will be a city activation programme ahead of PBD, which means the city will be brought into activation mode involving people from different spheres of life. While there will be programmes throughout the city involving educational institutions and corporate houses. Community-level programmes will be organised too,” the officer added.
In another programme called Good Fellows: India for senior citizens, young volunteers will be identified to spend time with senior citizens. They will devise strategies to bring youths and senior citizens together. There will be storytelling sessions, experience sharing, and social engagements conducted in various parks.
The civic body will also conduct social media outreach and Bhubaneswar Vibes Musical Evenings. “There will be a three-hour weekend music session at a prominent location. It will utilise RJs for public announcements at crowded places such as the bus stand and railway station. BMC will run social media campaigns for wider publicity about PBD.
The city authorities have also planned wall paintings along the flyover with different themes. Stone sculptures will be installed at selected places to add to the aesthetic beauty of the city. “There will be tactical interventions at several junctions and roundabouts through landscaping work. Hoardings and LED screens will be installed at prominent places. There will be a countdown screen also at a prominent location in the run-up to the event,” officials said.
