Prashant Kishor advocates for domicile policy to address migration and unemployment in Bihar | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: Poll strategist and Jan Suraaj Abhiyan founder Prashant Kishor on Sunday stressed the need for a state-specific “domicile policy” to curb migration and provide jobs to Bihar’s youth, who are grappling with severe unemployment.
“Domicile policy is essential to prevent large-scale migration and address the unemployment crisis in Bihar,” Kishor said at the Yuva Samvad event hosted by his organisation at Bapu Sabhagar on Sunday. He criticised the state govt for offering jobs to people from outside Bihar, forcing locals to seek livelihoods in other states.
Kishor accused both the central and state govts of neglecting Bihar’s residents. “The Jan Suraaj is committed to setting things right,” he said.
Announcing plans to promote “capable” youths in politics, Kishor pledged to provide electoral tickets to them. He said education should be a criterion for leadership within the Jan Suraaj campaign, which is set to become a political party on October 2, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
“Jan Suraaj will support youths who want to contribute to society. You don’t need to worry about money for elections; Jan Suraaj will assist you in every way,” he said.
Kishor reiterated that even the poorest people could contest elections under Jan Suraaj. “Don’t worry about winning elections; leave that to us,” he said.
Highlighting the severe unemployment crisis driving Bihar’s youth to migrate, Kishor stressed the importance of the domicile policy. He called upon the youth to engage actively in politics, saying that youth movements historically bring change. His party plans to contest all 243 seats in the upcoming state assembly elections.
Kishor also announced that he would not lead the new party, which he aims to formally launch on October 2. “The leader will be the most capable face of Bihar, supported by everyone,” he reiterated.
Kishor began a 3,500km padyatra from Gandhi Ashram in West Champaran on October 2, 2022, under the Jan Suraaj campaign. He claimed that 1.50 lakh office-bearers are currently associated with the campaign.
