‘Pragati Yatra’ of CM from Dec 23, says govt | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar will embark on his 15th statewide yatra, named Pragati Yatra, starting Dec 23, to review developmental progress in the state. During the first phase, he will visit six districts – West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur and Vaishali, according to a notification issued by the cabinet secretariat department on Tuesday.
As part of the yatra, the CM will hold review meetings with district in-charge ministers, other ministers and senior officials. “Pragati Yatra is a regular feature associated with Nitish Kumar. It will help prepare the state’s future plan,” JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said.
However, the yatra has drawn criticism from opposition netas, particularly RJD‘s Tejashwi Prasad Yadav. Tejashwi accused the CM of repeatedly renaming his yatra to obscure its lack of purpose. “It’s strange the CM changed the name of his yatra thrice within a fortnight. First, it was Mahila Samvad, then Samaj Sudhar and now Pragati Yatra. This shows his inability to take proper decisions,” Tejashwi alleged while posing 10 questions to Nitish on governance issues.
Refuting these claims, a senior official said, “The name of the CM’s yatra was never changed. Mahila Samvad Yatra is a programme of the rural development department, which will commence in January. The CM has no direct involvement in it, although he may attend some events.”
The yatra had earlier sparked a political controversy. RJD president Lalu Prasad faced backlash from the NDA for making objectionable remarks about Nitish’s yatra and questioning its relevance.
Tejashwi, meanwhile, accused Nitish of wasting public funds for political gains ahead of next year’s assembly elections. “Nitish’s so-called Pragati Yatra is nothing but a picnic at the expense of taxpayers’ money. For 20 years, Bihar has suffered from unemployment, migration, lawlessness, corruption and chaos. Is it justified to waste huge sums in the name of this yatra?” Tejashwi asked.
