Potholes surface on repaired 40-km road in Jajpur dist after heavy rain

Kendrapada: Recent heavy rain has again exposed potholes on the 40-km long Tamaka-Mangalpur road under Sukinda block in Jajpur district, which was repaired by the public works department six months back, residents said.
Around 45,000 people reside in 38 villages along the Tamaka-Mangalpur road. Randhir Rout, a shopowner of Tamaka, said, “The road was repaired at a cost of Rs 3 crore a few months back.It is shocking that it has been damaged again after heavy rain lashed the area in the past few days.”
Santanu Mallick of Kusumundia village said, “The road is so deplorable that it takes a long time to go from one village to another. Stagnant water and potholes are making it tough for motorists.” Akhila Behera of Mangalpur village said, “Our pleas to the panchayat and officials have not evoked a positive response.”
Rajanikanta Das of Tamaka said, “Tara Prasad Mishra, former chief engineer (road and bridges), who was arrested recently for amassing disproportionate assets, was executive engineer of Panikoili division when the road was built.”
Dilip Kumar Nayak, assistant engineer, PWD (Panikoili division), said, “Incessant and heavy rain in the last few days damaged some portions of the road. Govt has now handed over the road to Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC) Ltd for its maintenance.”

Officials commenced work on major roads, including Southern Peripheral Road and Golf Course Extension Road, and deployed adequate machinery and manpower across zones to ensure swift repairs.
