Potato Supply: Potato Supply Shortage Leads to Blame Game Between BJP and BJD | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: As potato continued to be sold for Rs 50-60/kg since supply from West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh has not resumed completely, state food supplies and consumer welfare Krushna Chandra Patra took a dig at former chief minister Naveen Patnaik and blamed the previous government for the crisis.
“Odisha govt is trying to ensure a smooth supply of potatoes to the state but we don’t know who is obstructing the supply.Maybe brother (Naveen) has instructed his sister (Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee),” Patra said.
The minister further said that Odisha is not self-sufficient in potato and depends on other states. “The state produces around three lakh metric tonnes of potato, while we consume over 13 lakh tonnes annually. This govt wants to improve the production of potato in the state and will be self-sufficient by potato production in the next couple of years. Odisha need not depend on any other state for potatoes,” he added.
Blaming the previous BJD govt for the potato crisis, the minister said, “This crisis has not happened overnight. The govt who ruled over the state for the last 24 years are responsible for this situation. We are trying to resolve the problem.”
BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty said, “Inaction, arrogance and lack of proper planning by the present dispensation for procuring potatoes has resulted in the crisis. We sincerely request the minister to stop talking and start taking steps to resolve the crisis.”
