Post-inspection, min alleges 40% discrepancy in drain desilting

Mumbai: On the second day of inspecting drains in the city ahead of monsoon, Mumbai guardian minister Ashish Shelar alleged a 40% discrepancy in drain desilting data. Shelar said that during his visit to nullahs, officials informed him that this year, for the first time, the BMC began using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for silt measurement and mapping of desilting work.“Upon asking how this mapping was done, officials shared videos explaining the process. Further investigation revealed that each trip carrying silt from the drains is scanned using AI to track where the silt is dumped. Of over 40,000 trips, discrepancies were found in 17,000 of them,” said Shelar, who on Friday visited drain cleaning sites near theGhatkopar bus depot, followed by visits to the API drain, Usha Nagar drain in Bhandup, and Mahul creek area. However, BMC officials said works are being carried out satisfactorily, and “some drain cleaning works may happen later.” tnn
