‘Poll code likely from September 20, Maharashtra elections in 3rd or 4th week of October’ – Times of India

MUMBAI: Senior bureaucrats associated with the election process believe that while the code of conduct for the assembly elections will come into force from September 20, polling will be held in the third or fourth week of October. Most likely, it will be a single-phase election, they said.
A bureaucrat said that in 2019, notification was issued on September 27 and polling took place on October 21, while results were declared on October 24.“Now we are geared up for the assembly elections, and as per the directives of the Election Commission, the final electoral roll must be published on August 20, 2024,” the official said.
After the Lok Sabha elections, political parties are gearing up for the assembly polls. MPCC president Nana Patole said that the MVA would repeat its Lok Sabha performance in the assembly elections and “will secure a clear majority.”
Sources said the Mahayuti led by chief minister Eknath Shinde is set to take a series of populist measures to attract voters. Bureaucrats have been asked to draft innovative schemes on the lines of those in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, they said.
The EC on June 20 asked chief electoral officers of poll-bound Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand and the UT of Jammu and Kashmir to undertake special summary revision of photo electoral rolls with June 1, 2024 as the qualifying date.
The EC has asked the state CEO for rationalization of polling stations, removal of discrepancies in the electoral rolls, improvement in image quality and ensuring of good-quality photographs before June 24, 2024. It has asked for publishing of the integrated draft electoral roll by June 25. Every Saturday and Sunday will see a special campaign, and the final electoral roll will be published on August 20.
The EC has also directed the CEO to ensure that no family is broken and all registered family members are kept in the same section and at the same place. Location of polling stations on ground floor will be ensured and electors will not be required to travel for more than two kms, the EC has stated.
