Police: Police return stolen items to victim in Berhampur | Bhubaneswar News
Berhampur: Police on Sunday returned gold and silver ornaments, worth over Rs 2 lakh, and Rs 12,000 to one Janardan Tahal after recovering them from a robber. The 35-year-old robber had stolen the items from Tahal’s house on Wednesday night.
The robber, identified as Rabi Sahu of Chandapur in Khurda district, had broken into Tahal’s house in Pathara under Ganjam district’s Khallikote police station limits and stolen the ornaments and cash.
Tahal and his family were not home when the robbery took place. On Thursday, they lodged a complaint and after verifying CCTV footage, police nabbed Sahu. “Sahu was nabbed while he was selling fastfood in the village,” Naresh Chandra Sahu, inspector in-charge at Khallikote police station, said.
He had hidden the ornaments in an earthen pot, which was recovered by the police while searching his house.
The gold ornaments weighed over 35gm and the silver around 110gm.
