Police Investigate Shocking Gold Chain Snatching Incident in Bhubaneswar |
Bhubaneswar: Police on Friday said they have collected video footage from 25 CCTV cameras installed in front of houses along Jatni Road to identify the miscreants, who snatched a gold chain from a woman from Botanda village here on Monday. The woman, U Bishnu Patra, 45, succumbed to severe head injuries on Wednesday evening. A police team will analyse every video footage to get some clues about the miscreants, official sources said.
Police sources said interrogation of locals is underway. “We are verifying CCTV footage, and the process is taking time. It is a blind case, and we are trying to solve it very soon,” said a police officer. He said they will analyse the videos and identify suspects from the videos. “We do not feel it is the work of any local snatcher because no snatching case has taken place under Airfield police station in the the last eight months,” he added.
DCP (Bhubaneswar) Pinak Mishra said exemplary actions will be taken against snatchers. “This incident took place on the border of Khurda, Pipili, and Bhubaneswar. It is a challenge for us, but we will solve the case soon,” he added.
The woman and her husband, U Pratap Patra, 48, were travelling on Jatni Road to Harirajpur under Delang block in Puri district to pay obeisance to Lord Shiv at Somnath Temple on Monday. Around 1 pm, two people on a motorcycle suddenly attacked her from behind to snatch her gold chain near Laban Giri Chak under Airfield police limits. She fell from the bike due to the attack. The miscreants thrashed her and snatched the gold chain weighing 35 grams from her neck. She sustained a serious head injury after falling from the moving motorcycle.
Pratap was shocked after the incident. He cannot digest that his wife is no more. “My wife did not harm anybody in her life. She was a good woman,” he added.
