Police Chowkidar Shot in Nalanda During Duty | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: Unidentified miscreants shot at and injured a police chowkidar, Alakhdev Paswan (35), while he was on duty in Nalanda district on Monday morning. The chowkidar was rushed to the sadar hospital, from where he was referred to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in a critical condition, police said.
Alakhdev is a native of Sosandi village and he is posted at the Rahui police station in the district. He was with his colleague, Dilip Paswan, when the incident occurred.
Sadar SDPO-II, Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal, said: “Alakhdev and Dilip were patrolling in the Rahui market area. Due to the cold condition, they lit a fire at a place to keep themselves warm. In the meantime, they noticed some suspicious activity near the Punjab National Bank. When they questioned people present near the bank, there started fleeing. Both the chowkidars started chasing them, but two miscreants escaped through a narrow alley. However, the third miscreant got stuck in the same alley and, feeling trapped, he fired a shot at them. The bullet hit Alakhdev below his ear, because of which he fell on the ground.”
Dilip promptly reported the matter to the Rahui police station after which the police arrived and took the injured chowkidar to the sadar hospital. Due to his serious injury, he was referred to the PMCH, Patna, said the Sadar SDPO-II.
“Alakhdev’s condition remains critical, and his family has also reached Patna. It is suspected that the miscreants were planning to commit a crime incident, which was thwarted by the chowkidars on duty. Dilip stated that they did not suspect the miscreants were possessing arms,” he said, adding the police are investigating the incident.
