Rourkela: A 14-year-old girl from a village in Sundargarh district was allegedly raped and impregnated by a gaon sathi. The accused, whose wife passed away two years ago, had expressed his love for the minor girl about a year ago, and she had allegedly reciprocated his feelings. The youth maintained a physical relationship with the girl, resulting in her pregnancy.The girl, who had become weak due to her condition, was pressuring the accused to marry her, but he kept making excuses. On Sept 7, while returning home, she fell unconscious close to her village.
The following afternoon, locals found her in a critical condition and informed her cousin, who took her to a hospital. “The minor girl is now 8 months pregnant and is currently recovering at a hospital in Rourkela,” said Jnanendra Kumar Sahu, a police inspector.
On Sept 11, her cousin brother had filed an FIR against the gaon sathi. Police registered a case of rape under Pocso Act. tnn
