PNB heist: 2 arrested, ₹2L recovered | Patna News – Times of India


Patna: Police on Friday arrested two criminals from Nalanda in connection with Rs 21 lakh heist at Punjab National Bank (PNB), Koriya-Sultanpur branch, in Jamui Bazar under Dulhin Bazar police station area of Patna on August 5.
The arrested criminals have been identified as Shatrughan Kumar and Ghanshyam Bharti alias Chotan. The police recovered Rs 2.28 lakh from the two, which is believed to be a part of the looted amount.However, the mastermind of the bank robbery, Santosh Bakaria, is still at large.
City SP, West, Abhinav Dhiman said, “Rs 2,800 cash was found in the possession of the criminals when they were arrested. Later Rs 2 lakh was recovered from the house of Santosh’s girlfriend. Santosh used the money from the bank robbery for real estate transactions and hid the looted money in his girlfriend’s house. The gang has committed four crimes in last 30 days, looting over Rs 50 lakh. It was also involved in previous bank heists in Sheikhpura and Patna districts. Raids are being conducted to arrest Santosh and his other associates.”
Dhiman further said that Shatrughan had provided SIM cards to the robbers. During interrogation, Ghanshyam revealed that he had given a part of the looted money to his relatives and rest were hidden in the house of Santosh’s girlfriend. Nine cellphones along with other belongings were found in house of Santosh’s girlfriend, he added.
