PMK: TN govt must clarify its stand on online gambling

Chennai: PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss demanded the DMK explain the party’s stand on banning online gambling.
In a statement on Sunday, Anbumani said that 77 people committed suicide due to online gambling in the state after the DMK govt came to power.
“The govt has the responsibility to stop online gambling,” he said.
However, 15 months have lapsed since the govt appealed against the high court order on banning online gambling.
But the appeal has not been taken up for hearing, he said.
Recalling that a woman, identified as Vennila, from Mittnakuppam village in Thirupathur district, died by suicide because her husband was addicted to online gambling, Anbumani said her death was the 10th in the past three months caused by online gambling.
He said that 27 persons committed suicide due to gambling in the past one and a half years.
Alleging that there was very little action from the DMK to end the menace, he demanded to know what the DMK’s stand was on banning these online games.
