PMC takes steps to ease traffic congestion near Patna Junction | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: Traffic congestion has become a perennial problem for residents across the city due to the rise in the number of vehicles, unauthorized parking, encroachment by street vendors and ongoing development works that have narrowed the roads.
To address the traffic issues near Patna Junction and the surrounding areas, Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar, along with other senior officials and a ward councillor, conducted a joint inspection at various junctions in and around Station Road on Saturday. He issued several instructions to the officials concerned to reduce traffic congestion.
“In the initial stage, we will tackle small obstructions causing traffic issues, including relocating transformers and electric poles on the road, regulating street vendors near the cinema hall and removing unauthorised vendors. The traffic flow in this area is from every corner of the city, as thousands of people travel every day to and from Patna Junction. To ensure smooth traffic flow, we will take several measures,” Parashar said.
During the inspection, councillor of ward 28, Vinay Kumar Pappu, suggested making a U-turn near Station Road pillar numbers 14 and 14A. He also proposed constructing a footpath on Patna Junction goods warehouse road, which connects to Station Road. “With the construction of the footpath, reaching the railway station will be easier for pedestrians and it will also reduce crowd pressure at the main gate of Patna Junction,” he said.
The commissioner said they would hold a meeting with the traffic police, district administration and road construction department to implement the measures suggested during the inspection. “Besides, we will also discuss road engineering or access control of the area to avoid haphazard parking, ensuring that people park their vehicles at designated locations,” Parashar said.
He added, “Another reason for traffic jams is ongoing construction work by different departments and agencies. The civil work of the pedestrian subway near Patna Junction will be completed within the next 15 days and Patna Smart City Limited will remove the barricading. It will surely help in reducing traffic congestion.”
Executive officer of New Capital circle, Prabhat Kumar, executive engineer NCC Vijay Kumar and other officials were present during the inspection.
