Flagging off several projects in the city on Saturday, PM Narendra Modi said: “The country’s people are clever, and the public is recognising this. As soon as the new government took oath, we took a step towards giving poor proper pukka homes and these included homes to several Adivasi and Dalits too. Every infrastructure project leads to job creation, and with the increase in pace of infrastructure development, employment generation is also increasing.”
He said his govt had created 8 crore new jobs. RBI’s KLEMS database released on Monday, stated that the growth in employment in the country doubled to 6% (provisional) in FY2023-24, compared to a 3.2% rise seen in FY2022-23. In absolute terms, the number of jobs increased by 4.67 crore to 64.33 crore in FY 2023-24. In FY 2022-23, the total workforce stood at 59.67 crore. The data also showed that since FY2020-21, the country had added 7.8 crore jobs.
At the event, the PM began with a “namaskar”. “In the third term, the NDA government will work at thrice the speed. Maharashtra has the power of industry, agriculture, finance sector and this has made Mumbai the finance centre. I want to make Mumbai the fintech capital and Maharashtra the tourism capital of the country,” he said.
He further said, “Mumbai has completed Coastal Road and Atal Setu and there were attempts to delay it, but today 20,000 cars are using it (Atal Setu) daily. Also, because of it, Rs 20-25 lakh of fuel is getting saved. With this approach, we are making Mumbai’s transport advanced in every way,” said Modi. PM also laid the foundation stone for Kalyan Yard Remodelling project and Gati Shakti MultiModal Cargo Terminal at Na vi Mumbai.
The new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extension of platforms 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station were also officially inaugurated. Modi also launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana with an outlay of around Rs 5,600 crore. It is an internship programme aimed at addressing youth unemployment.
DCM Devendra Fadnavis said these projects are infrastructure marvels which will save travel time for all Mumbaikars. “One can soon reach any corner in Mumbai within 60 minutes, that is the aim. In your hands, our underground metro will be started and the city’s face will change.”
Chief minister Eknath Shinde said the city has progressed at a tremendous speed under PM’s leadership. “The opposition tried to spread a false narrative, but couldn’t even win 100 seats in LS polls,” said the CM.
