Plan for truck terminal near Jeypore town to decongest traffic | Bhubaneswar News

Koraput: In a bid to decongest traffic flow in Jeypore, the Koraput administration has announced plans to construct a dedicated truck terminal near BJ-2 village, around 10 km from the town, under Dongra mouza in Jeypore tehsil. The terminal, which will serve as a hub for truck parking, loading and unloading, will be developed over a five-acre plot.Officials said the location has been strategically chosen due to its proximity to the Koraput segment of the greenfield six-lane Raipur-Visakhapatnam economic corridor (NH 130-CD) part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana scheme, as well as its connectivity to NH-26.”The site is ideally situated between the economic corridor and NH-26, making it a suitable point for trucks to halt and manage their goods without having to enter Jeypore town,” said Jeypore sub-collector, A Sasya Reddy.”The truck terminal is expected to become a key logistics point in southern Odisha, enhancing trade flow while improving road safety in Jeypore town,” she added. The proposed terminal will be equipped with essential amenities including water supply, electricity a rest shed for drivers, CCTV cameras and boundary walls for security. The facility is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in Jeypore, where unregulated truck parking along NH-26 and NH-326 frequently causes bottlenecks and accidents.Locals have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that it will provide a permanent solution to the persistent traffic issues in the area. “It’s a good move by the administration, but timely completion and commissioning of the truck terminal is crucial, said Dhiren Patnaik, a Jeypore-based activist. Officials said a team has been formed for planning and implementation of the project and it would be carried out in a phased and efficient manner to ensure minimal disruption.
