Rourkela: The Sundargarh police have filed a case against a man for allegedly raping a 25-year-old physically-challenged woman and impregnating her. The incident took place at a village in the district around five months ago and the matter came to light after the woman’s mother filed an FIR on Tuesday against the man, who is absconding. On Thursday, a scientific team, along with the police, went to the rape survivor’s house to conduct an examination.
“We have registered a rape case against the accused and are investigating the case further,” inspector P Sagar said.
As per the FIR, the accused, who works in Goa, is a native of the same village as the woman. He had come to the village in August and came in touch the woman, who lives with her mother. Later, he went to her house one day when she was alone and proposed to her. But when she rejected him, he raped her. Later, when she warned him that she would inform her mother about the incident, he assured her that he would marry her. But the accused kept avoiding the topic of marriage whenever she brought it up and later, when she found out that she was pregnant, she tried contacting him but found that he had left for Goa. Subsequently, her mother came to know of the incident and filed an FIR against him.
