Pet parents are dressing up their fur babies in sherwanis and shararas | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Be it kurtas, lehengas or even saris, pet parents in the city are going all out to dress up their dogs and cats for festive events and special moments. The idea is to choose an outfit that doesn’t just look stylish, but also ensures the comfort of their furry friends.

‘Cotton outfits are best as they don’t cause any skin allergies’
Paras Bhanushali and Megha Jain from Mulund, who own an ethnic wear brand for both cats and dogs, say cotton works best as it does not cause any skin allergies. Paras adds, “The most in-demand clothes for pets are ghagra choli and koti kurta or sleeveless bundi. We use human-grade premium fabrics and 100% cotton lining below the clothing, which touches their skin and doesn’t cause any harm or irritation. Before taking the measurements or doing a shoot, we first play with them to make them friendly and comfortable, and all this is done in the presence of the pet owner.” Not just that, the pets also have a stylist for the trials and fitting sessions, which is provided at an additional cost.

‘People dress their pets in sync with the mood of the event’
Sisters Chetna and Chaitalee Abrol were inspired by their pet dog Bella to start a line of ethnic wear for other animals. From sherwanis and lehengas to elegant gowns and bandhgalas, they make a range of outfits for your fur buddies in Mumbai and Delhi. Chetna says, “We’ve seen the highest demand for weddings and festive celebrations. People look for outfits for their pets that match the mood of the event.”
Pet store owner from Goregaon, Nina Shinde adds, “We have an easy return and exchange policy if the customer is not sure about the product. We also share real time videos and images of the products as they are being made, with the pet parents.”

Here’s what to keep in mind when you dress up your pet
Avoid nylon and polyester fabrics as they’re not breathable and can be uncomfortable
Style the outfit with accessories like bows, hairclips, scarves or neckpieces, depending on your pet’s comfort level
Ensure the clothing does not restrict your pet from moving freely, cause discomfort or choking hazards
Our dog Groot is an integral part of our family. My brother is getting married, and we were quite confused about how to dress him for the wedding. We think a sherwani will be perfect and he will look really cool in it
