Dist collectors asked to identify beneficiaries for housing schemes

Bhubaneswar: The department of social security and empowerment of persons with disability has asked district collectors to launch a special drive to identify persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens and transgenders without a proper house so that they can be included under govt housing schemes.
“Under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, there is a provision that 5% of houses in govt housing projects should to be allotted to such beneficiaries in both urban and rural areas. Thus, it is vital to safeguard rights of PWDs, elderly and transgenders and while allotting houses in govt projects, priority should be given to such beneficiaries. Therefore, you are requested to launch a special drive to identify such beneficiaries,” read department minister Nityanand Gond’s letter to district collectors.
Gond emphasised that the houses in the govt projects should be allotted to such beneficiaries preferably on the ground or on the first floor.
