CM inaugurates band of specially-abled people

Bhubaneswar: To promote inclusivity and empowerment among persons with disabilities, chief minister Mohan Majhi on Thursday inaugurated Ninad, a unique music band consisting of 22 talented artists with disabilities.
The band, an initiative of social security and empowerment of persons with disabilities (SSEPD) department and Sangeet Natak Akademi, provides a platform for differently- abled individuals to showcase their talent and challenge societal stereotypes.
Lauding the initiative, Majhi said, “This is not just a musical event but a celebration of resilience, creativity and inclusivity. The band members have not only broken barriers but also inspired millions.”
The 22-member band comprising both vocalists and instrumentalists has been mentored by eminent music composer Laxmikant Palit.
After several months of auditions attracting hundreds of artists with disabilities from different pats of the state from whom 22 exceptional performers were selected. Laxmikant Palit fine tuned their skills with training and practice sessions and they are performing in the state today, said SSEPD secretary, Bishnupada Sethi.
Music composer Laxmikant Palit said, “Ninad will not only elevate the artists but also change the way society perceives persons with disabilities. They are no way lesser than normal singers and instrumentalists”.
The repertoire of the band included various genres, starting from classical, folk, and contemporary music, which mesmerized the audience during the inaugural performance.
One of the vocalist Alisha Chaudhury said, “Being part of Ninad has given me confidence and a sense of belonging. Music has always been my passion, and now I can pursue it at a professional level”.
