Paucity of doctors, medicines hits patients at Danapur railway hospital | Patna News – Times of India

PATNA: The Danapur railway hospital which caters to the medical needs of about 13,000 railway employees, excluding their family members and pensioners, has fallen short of expectations. Paucity of medicines and doctors and inadequate facilities have allegedly hit the services in the hospital.
Sarita, wife of a railway official, said that she was advised to undergo an ultrasound test at the hospital recently.Unfortunately this facility is not available at the Danapur hospital since past about one and a half year. She said it was not possible for her to visit the ECR’s Central Hospital, Karbighaiya in Patna where a patient has to wait for whole day for an ultrasound test.
Harsh, son of a railway employee of Danapur, said that there is no facility for thyroid test at the Danapur hospital and her mother went for the test in a private lab. He alleged that quality medicines were hardly available for the employees in the hospital.
Several retired railway employees of Danapur said they had been issued ‘Umid Medical Card’, which entitles them to avail medical facilities at any railway hospital across the country. They alleged that the doctors of the Danapur hospital did not entertain this card on the ground that the patient who has opted treatment at any particular hospital should seek medical facilities there only.
Chief medical superintendent (CMS) of Danapur railway hospital, Dr P K Mishra said the railways is committed to providing better medical facilities to its employees. “There is no dearth of medicines in the hospital which has an annual budget of Rs 6 crore,” he said, adding that the hospital has recently tied up with a private agency for ultrasound and other pathological tests in Danapur. The 112-bed Danapur hospital has a sanctioned strength of 14 doctors, out of which two posts of the doctor are lying vacant now, he said.
ECR’s principal chief medical director, Dr Chandra, said about 90,000 employees from all five divisions of the ECR are registered with the Central Hospital at Karbighaiya alone to avail medical facilities. He assured that he would personally look into ‘genuine’ grievances of the railway employees.
