Patna: With gradual fall in mercury, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has set up a total of 29 night shelters for the poor and deprived people in the state capital. The night shelters have been developed near Gandhi Maidan, Buddha Smriti Park, Hartali More, NIT-Patna More, and other main locations of the municipal area.
The shelters will be monitored round-the-clock through the CCTV cameras installed at the centres.
According to a PMC official, the night shelters developed in the city include 11 temporary shelters, six permanent, and 12 based on the German hangar-based technology, with a capacity of 907 beds. They have been built near public places like important roundabouts and intersections, railway stations and bus stands for the convenience of people. The municipal officials will monitor the shelters through the CCTV cameras, connected to the PMC control room, for 24-hour monitoring from the municipal headquarters, the official said.
A German hanger tent is a type of tent that has a high, steeply pitched roof and is often used for outdoor events and camping. Such tents are popular due to their spacious interior, elegant appearance, and versatility for use in different settings.
“There are 312 beds in German hangar-based technology shelters, 325 in permanent, and 270 in temporary centres. The residents will be provided with free beds, bedsheets, blankets, mosquito nets, drinking water, and toilet facilities there. Additionally, all night shelters will be equipped with safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, a register for visitors, tables, chairs, and other facilities,” said Shweta Bhaskar, spokesperson of PMC.
