Patna DM reviews preps for Pitripaksh Mela at Punpun | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: The Patna district administration has begun preparations for the 16-day-long ‘Punpun International Pitripaksh Mela’, scheduled from September 17 to October 2. “Thousands of pilgrims, devotees and tourists from India and abroad, including Nepal and Bhutan, visit the fair. At the Punpun river site, attendees perform traditional rituals like pinddaan and tarpan for the eternal peace of their ancestors’ souls,” Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh said.
The DM stressed the need for coordination among all departments concerned to ensure the fair’s success. He asked the executive officer of the Punpun Nagar Panchayat to ensure that all LED high-mast lights remain functional. Officials were also directed to set up a temporary control room and a tourist assistance-cum-facilitation centre, monitored through CCTVs. Temporary tents will also be constructed for devotees’ convenience.
“Barricading of ghats will be done and boats, divers and NDRF/SDRF teams will be deployed. The quick response team will remain active during the fair. Anti-sabotage checks will be conducted,” the DM said.
For devotees’ convenience, the sub-divisional officer was instructed to request the divisional railway manager, Danapur, for short-term train stoppages at Punpun Ghat railway halt and Punpun station. In a meeting, SDO Amit Kumar Patel presented pre-preparation details via PPT, while organising committee members provided suggestions.
