Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) has launched a special awareness drive to enhance passenger safety due to rush on trains during Rath Yatra. Railways are operating 315 special trains for the festival.
ECoR has advised pilgrims and travellers to avoid riding on footboards, buffers or rooftops of train compartments. It urged pilgrims and passengers not to carry any inflammable items, to avoid food or drinks offered by strangers, and to refrain from touching unattended baggage or suspicious items.
To reinforce passenger safety, ECoR has engaged RPF personnel to implement crowd control strategies and guard against anti-social behaviour.
ECoR is operating special trains from rest of Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh, supplementing the regular services to Puri. These supplementary services aim to cater to pilgrims attending the Rath Yatra, Bahuda Yatra, Suna Besha and Adhara Pana, said a senior railway officer. Railways aims to carry 15 lakh passengers to and from Puri during the festival.
