Parking Woes: Parking issues at Odisha Adarsh Vidyalaya, Kusumdih due to heavy vehicle parking on NH-520 | Bhubaneswar News
Rourkela: Students and teachers of Odisha Adarsh Vidyalaya, Kusumdih, in Koida block under Bonai sub-division of Sundargarh district, have been facing severe difficulties in attending classes due to illegal parking of heavy vehicles on NH-520 in front of the school. Bonai MLA Laxman Munda had raised this issue in the assembly. However, according to sources, the problem is yet to be resolved.
A private mine at Narayanposhi square operates near the govt school, leading to the regular arrival of hundreds of trucks and other heavy vehicles for loading materials from the mine.
The lack of parking facilities for these heavy vehicles results in them being parked on the road, forming multiple rows on NH-520, causing traffic congestion for hours.
“We regularly face difficulties in reaching the school and attending classes due to parking of heavy vehicles on the road near our school. We often miss the prayer meet and sometimes arrive after the first period,” said Dipta Ranjan Nayak, a Class X student. Arun Barla, the school’s principal, said, “I have submitted written complaints to the Bonai sub-collector about the issue. However, our concerns have not been addressed yet,” he said.
Bonai sub-collector Suranjan Sahoo said, “Enforcement by the regional transport officer (RTO) of Rourkela and his team is being carried out from time to time to stop illegal parking and avoid traffic congestion. I have also discussed with the RTO the formation of an additional enforcement team for that area to ensure that multi-layer heavy vehicle parking does not occur, thereby preventing traffic congestion.”
Odisha Adarsh Vidyalaya, established in 2017, is a CBSE-affiliated english medium school under the govt’s school and mass education department. It has 318 students enrolled in classes VI to XII and 17 teachers. The school is located around 6 km from the Koida block headquarters.
