Bengaluru: City traffic police have warned parents and guardians that they could face imprisonment for up to three years and a fine of Rs 1 lakh for handing over vehicles to minors. The issue surfaced recently when Kamakshipalya traffic police booked two parents for giving their two-wheelers to minors. The minors were caught performing wheelie stunts.
According to police, the minors were “neglected” by their parents. “Due to their parents’ apathy and negligence, the minors befriended miscreants and anti-social elements. As a result, they indulged in wheelie stunts,” police said.
“Till now, parents or guardians of such minors were fined up to Rs 25,000 by the courts. Now, since we are booking them under the Juvenile Justice Act and chargesheeting them, the courts could sentence them to three years imprisonment with a fine of Rs one lakh.”
