Paradip port handles record 150MMT cargo in 2024-25 | Bhubaneswar News

Kendrapada: Paradip Port Authority (PPA) handled a record 150.41 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in FY 2024-25, joining an exclusive club, officials said.
PPA chairperson P L Haranadh announced on Wednesday that the port continues to lead all major and non-major ports on India’s eastern coast in different parameters. “Our coastal cargo handling, which constitutes 42.36% of the total volume, grew by 7.65% to reach 63.71 MMT, making us the leader in coastal shipping among Indian major ports,” he said. The port witnessed remarkable 111% growth in container cargo and flux volume (32%) year-on-year, he said.
It also achieved its highest-ever rail traffic, handling 22,818 rakes (up 5.32%) and 81.01 MMT in rail-borne cargo. Additionally, PPA handled export-import (exim) container traffic with 12,711 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) and maintained the highest berth productivity at 34,283 MT per day per berth.
Terminal operators performed well, with Kalinga International Coal Terminal Private Ltd and Paradip East Quay Cargo Terminal Private Ltd growing by 15.18% and 12.53%, respectively.
Expansion plans include the 25 MMTPA western dock project, with its first phase scheduled for completion in 2026, and a green hydrogen/ammonia export terminal, he said.
Haranadh credited the success to collaborative efforts from stakeholders, while acknowledging support from the railway ministry, state govt and customs.
