Koraput: The five-day annual cultural festival, Parab-2024, a celebration of tribal art and culture, concluded with grandeur on Wednesday, drawing over one lakh visitors despite the chilly weather.
The event, held at the Parab ground here, featured diverse cultural programmes that extended into the early hours of Thursday. Deputy chief minister and tourism minister Pravati Parida, who attended as the chief guest, praised the festival for its impact on local artists and its contribution to the district’s development.
“Parab has carved a niche for itself at the national level, and efforts are underway to transform Koraput into a tourism hub of the state,” said Parida. She expressed optimism about the festival’s growth, highlighting its potential to evolve into a national cultural event.
The final day featured a variety of performances, including traditional tribal dances like Dhemsa and Gadba from Koraput and other states. Standout performances by singers Pawandeep Rajan and Arunita Kanjilal captivated the audience, making it a memorable festival highlight.
Collector (Koraput) Keerthi Vasan V commended the vibrancy of this year’s event, attributing its success to the Koraput administration, elected representatives, and the support of locals.
A significant feature of Parab-2024 was the pallishree mela, a five-day exhibition of handicrafts. Deputy CEO of ORMAS (Koraput), Roshan Kartik, reported that the mela recorded an impressive business turnover of Rs 13.5 crore.
