Navi Mumbai: Police have arrested a Panvel resident on abetment of suicide charge after his 38-year-old wife allegedly pushed her eight-year-old daughter to death from her 29th-floor flat and then leaped to her death on March 12.
An FIR was registered against the accused based on a complaint filed by his mother-in-law on March 14. She claimed that her son-in-law has an extramarital affair and he used to physically and mentally harassing his wife to get money from her maternal house. The complainant also alleged that her son-in-law threatened his wife to return to her parents’ house with their daughter or end their lives, or else he would kill them. “The abetment of suicide FIR was registered against the husband. Earlier, a murder case was filed against the deceased woman for allegedly pushing her daughter to death,” ACP (Panvel division) Ashok Rajput said. “The husband earlier had claimed that his wife had mental health issues and was undergoing treatment, but it is yet to be ascertained as we have not received her medical records yet.” The husband has been remanded to police custody till Monday. — George Mendonca
