Pakistan a ‘rogue, terrorist’, says guv; CM welcomes truce

Chennai: Describing Pakistan as a “rogue, terrorist” state that cannot be relied upon, governor R N Ravi on Saturday called upon people to remain united, cutting across all faiths and sections, highlighting the country’s diversity and unity in times of crisis.Chief minister M K Stalin, meanwhile, led a unity march of hundreds of people, expressing solidarity with the Indian armed forces. The four-kilometre march commenced from the DGP office on Kamaraj Salai to the War Memorial in Chennai, with Stalin holding the tricolour and leading the march. Later, in a post on X, Stalin said, “Tamil Nadu marched in solidarity with the #IndianArmedForces. The ceasefire is a welcome step — may peace endure. Our heartfelt salute to the courage of those who guard our borders.” Deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, ministers, MPs, MLAs, chief secretary N Muruganandam, DGP Shankar Jiwal, and DMK allies took part in the march. Stalin paid floral tributes to the martyrs near War Memorial.Addressing a meeting of all faiths at Raj Bhavan, Ravi expressed gratitude to Stalin for organising the rally. He mentioned speaking with the chief minister about the Raj Bhavan event. “He (Stalin) would have loved to come. But he got engaged,” said the governor. Minister Thangam Thennarasu, who represented state govt for the Raj Bhavan event, thanked Ravi for organising it and expressed the state’s support for the armed forces.Later, in a post on X, Ravi said, “Heartiest thanks to Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru @mkstalin for a grand public rally this evening expressing unequivocal solidarity of our 8 crore people of Tamil Nadu with the Indian Armed Forces who are valiantly and successfully defending the nation against the Pakistani military aggression. Our nation stands united and resolute alongside our armed forces, reaffirming our unwavering commitment to wipe out all the nodes of terror and safeguard our national sovereignty.”Tuticorin: Former BJP state chief K Annamalai on Saturday said India was giving a ‘befitting reply’ to Pakistan by targeting terrorists, not civilians, in its military operations.Addressing reporters here, he said India’s responses to cross-border terrorism had evolved because Pakistan repeatedly ignored calls for peace. “From Pathankot to Pulwama, the Modi govt ensured strong, targeted responses. Even now, the Indian Army is striking terror camps without targeting Pakistani military bases or civilian infrastructure,” he said. TNN
