Over 2k cases filed under SC/ST Act in Saran in 6 yrs: DM

Chhapra: Saran district registered 2,314 cases under the SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act between 2018 and 2024.
The first compensation installment was provided to victims or their kin in 1,954 cases, while the second installment was issued in 486 cases. Payments for the remaining 279 cases were delayed owing to the lack of the chargesheet copy.
The details were disclosed during the Thursday meeting of the district-level SC/ST Prevention Act Monitoring Committee, chaired by Saran DM Aman Sameer.

Connectivity and drainage improvements were discussed.
Saran declared as model district in controlling kala-azar disease
Health minister Mangal Pandey honored the Saran vector borne disease team for their efforts in controlling kala-azar. The team, led by Dr Dilip Kumar Singh and Dr Anuj Kumar, was recognized for raising awareness, identifying patients, and ensuring timely treatment. Saran has been declared a ‘model district’ for its exemplary work, with hopes of becoming kala-azar-free.
