More than 1k passengers arrested for illegal alarm chain pulling in ECR

Patna: More than 1,000 passengers were arrested for illegal alarm chain pulling (ACP) at different places falling under the jurisdiction of East Central Railway (ECR) and sent to judicial custody under the Railway Act 141. The RPF arrested all the persons during a special drive — ‘Samay Palan’, carried out by the railways last month and collected Rs 5.27 lakh as fine from them, said Saraswati Chandra, ECR’s chief public relations officer (CPRO).
The CPRO said illegal alarm chain pulling incidents are causing unnecessary detentions of long-distance mail and express trains with a repercussion on other passenger trains. “Punctuality of the passenger trains gets badly affected causing harassment to bonafide passengers onboard trains. The railways has thus decided to curb the malaise of ACP by conducting regular drive and creating mass awareness among people living in the nearby railway tracks, not to indulge in illegal detention of trains,” he said.
In addition, RPF teams have been tasked with the job to visit all those villages located near the tracks from where maximum number of ACP cases have been reported, and hold a direct interaction with village heads and youths to make them aware.
