OTET Aspirants: OTET Exam Fee Hike: Aspirants Express Concern Over 50% Increase |
Bhubaneswar: Expressing concern over 50% increase in examination fee for Odisha Teachers’ Eligibility Test (OTET), aspirants have urged the govt to intervene immediately.
The fee was increased from Rs 600 to 900 for one subject and from Rs 900 to Rs 1,400 for two subjects. The Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, conducts the OTET examination twice a year.
“The increase in fee is a burden for poor and meritorious students who want to make a career in teaching. The exam is being held after a gap of two years and the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) must consider the plight of economically weaker students,” said Bhaskar Nayak, an aspirant.
Some candidates took to social media platform X to draw the attention of state govt and other senior officers towards the fee hike. The BSE increased fees like vegetable prices are increasing in the market, someone quipped.
For SC and ST category candidates, the examination fee is Rs 600 and Rs 900 for one and two papers respectively. A group of students staged a protest in front of the board’s office on Tuesday. The board issued the notification for application on June 21 while candidates can apply from June 24 to July 5. They can download their admit cards on Aug 4 and the exam will be held on Aug 9.
Board president Srikant Tarai told TOI, “The OTET exam fees have been revised after 6 to 7 years. This year, we have introduced many new things to bring transparency in the exam system. We have ensured CCTV surveillance at exam centres to check malpractice. We have introduced a digi-locker system so that students can download their results immediately. Similarly, the remuneration of question setters and evaluators has also been increased”.
