Orissa High Court Upholds Central Government’s Additional Fees for Vehicle Registration Delays | Bhubaneswar News

Cuttack: Orissa high court on Tuesday dismissed a batch of petitions challenging the validity of Union transport and highways ministry’s Oct 4, 2021 notification on Central Motor Vehicles (Twenty Third Amendment) Rules, 2021, by which the Centre had levied additional fee in case of delay in applying for the renewal of registration certificate and expiry of a vehicle’s fitness certificate.
The bench of Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh and Justice Savitri Ratho said, “In the present case, since the Bombay high court has already taken a view on the competence of the central govt to impose additional fees under Rules 32 & 81 of the CMV Rules, we decline to entertain the challenge to the impugned notification on the ground of incompetence of the central govt to impose additional tax, in the aforesaid background.” TNN
