Patna: In the wake of the protests by the BPSC aspirants, alleging paper leak in the Integrated 70th Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination held on Dec 13, the lawmakers from the opposition parties marched towards Raj Bhavan on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum with various demands, primarily cancellation of the said exam.
The agitation intensified over the last few days, with even police using force on the agitators at JP roundabout near Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Sunday.
On Tuesday, the lawmakers belonging to the CPI(ML), Congress, RJD, CPI and CPI(M), amid heavy police deployment, took out their march from Martyr’s Memorial in front of the state assembly building to the Raj Bhavan, demanding fresh tests for all candidates, release of the protesters arrested, withdrawal of the police cases lodged against them, adequate compensation to the next of kin of deceased aspirant Sonu Kumar, who died by suicide, an impartial inquiry into the alleged paper leak and action against the “paper leak mafia”.
As the state’s governor-designate, Arif Mohmmad Khan, has not yet been sworn in, a delegation of the lawmakers was invited to the Raj Bhavan and asked to submit the memorandum to the governor’s principal secretary, R L Chongthu.
After submitting the memorandum, CPI(ML) legislature party leader Mahboob Alam told reporters outside the Raj Bhavan that they condemn the police behaviour during Sunday’s agitation and the barbaric lathicharge on the candidates. “It seems the Nitish Kumar govt has adopted the police crackdown norm that prevails in Uttar Pradesh under CM Yogi Adityanath.”
The Raj Bhavan march was led by Alam and Satyadeo Ram from the CPI(ML), Congress legislature party leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan, Ramratan Singh of the CPI and Ajay Kumar of the CPM, who met Chongthu. The other participating lawmakers were CPI(ML) Liberation MP Sudama Prasad, MLC Shashi Yadav, RJD MLA Sameer Kumar Mahaseth, CPI(ML)’s Sandeep Saurabh, Arun Singh, Gopal Ravidas, Birendra Gupta, Mahanand Singh, Amarjeet Kushwaha, Rambali Singh Yadav and Shiv Prakash Ranjan.
During the march, some lawmakers pushed the barricades, erected by the police along the way from Marty’s Memorial to the Raj Bhavan, while the personnel snatched their banners.
