NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reiterated that Operation Sindoor should not be treated as a one-off initiative and civil defence preparedness must be institutionalised by the states.During the Governing Council meeting of Niti Ayog, PM Modi said that the states must modernise their approach to civil preparedness. He also added that the recent mock drills have reignited our attention to civil defence states should institutionalize Civil Defence preparedness.“The CMs and LGs praised Operation Sindoor for its precision and targeted strikes which led to destruction of terror infrastructure. In one voice, they praised PM’s leadership and the valour of the Armed Forces,” Niti Ayog said in a statement.“They also praised the efforts towards Aatmanirbharta in the defence sector which have strengthened the defence forces and bolstered confidence in our capabilities,” it added.This was the first major meeting of the PM with chief ministers of all states and lieutenant governors after US President Donald Trump announced reciprocal tariffs and Operation Sindoor.Read more: ‘No credentials to speak about protecting civilians’: India slams Pakistan’s ‘grossly hypocritical’ remarks at UNPM Modi also called for cooperation between the Centre and states to achieve the national goals, as he chaired a meeting of Niti Aayog.“If Centre and states work together like Team India, no goal is impossible,” Prime Minister Modi said at Niti Aayog governing council meeting.The theme of this year’s meeting was ‘Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat@2047’, with a focus on the role of states in helping India become a developed country by 2047, according to a press release from NITI Aayog.
