Patna: There will be another direct flight from Darbhanga airport to Mumbai from July 1.JD(U) national executive president and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Kumar Jha shared this information on his X handle on Wednesday. “A new flight from Mithila! We are happy to share that @AkasaAir is starting a direct flight service from Darbhanga airport to Mumbai from July 1. Efforts are also underway to make Darbhanga airport an international airport. In the coming times, the developed form of Darbhanga airport will prove to be a game changer in terms of connectivity and development in the entire North Bihar, including Mithila,” Jha posted.So far, only SpiceJet operates a direct Mumbai-Darbhanga flight. Chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena had already sent a proposal to the Union civil aviation ministry in April this year to declare Darbhanga airport as an international airport.In his letter to the secretary, ministry of civil aviation, Meena also requested for the runway extension of the Darbhanga airport. He requested the secretary, civil aviation to process and expedite the Bihar govt’s proposal and seek comments from relevant ministries/departments of the GoI to take forward the proposal in a coordinated manner. The Nitish govt had also requested the civil aviation ministry on Dec 22, 2020, to rename Darbhanga airport as ‘Kavi Kokil Vidyapati Airport’.
