Rourkela: A woman died and four others, including a six-year-old girl, were severely injuried after a trailer hit a car on State Highway-10 under Bargaon police limit in Sundargarh district on Saturday night.
According to police, six members of a family from Tunmura village under Kutra police station in Sundargarh district, were returning from a shradh ceremony, when the accident occured. A bullock crossed the road, leading the car to hit the brake.
A speeding trailer rammed into the vehicle from behind killing 54-year-old Sebastine Dungdung. Four others, Benedik Kullu (79), Izlina Kullu (6), Sujata Kullu (37) and Bimal Kullu (54), sustained injuries while another woman narrowly escaped. The car driver reportedly fled the scene.
The injured persons were taken to Bargaon community health centre while Sebastine was declared brought dead. Later, they were sent to Sundargarh district headquarter hospital. Since the health condition of Bimal and Sujata were found critical, they were admitted to a private hospital here on Sunday.
After getting information, Bargaon police reached the spot and seized both the vehicles. The postmortem of deceased woman was carried out on Sunday and her body was handed over to her family. On Sunday, FIR has been lodged in Bargaon police station. After registering case, Baragaon police arrested the driver of trailer on Sunday and are investigating.
