MUMBAI: One person has been arrested in connection with the bid on a temple priest‘s life at Malad recently.
In a joint operation in Uttar Pradesh, the Special Task Force along with the Mumbai Police picked up Surya Narayan Das. He will be brought to Mumbai on a transit remand.
Elderly temple priest Madhav Acharya was knifed in the shoulder at Malad East early on Tuesday while he was performing a ‘havan.’
The attacker fled thereafter.Acharya was rushed to a hospital and is being treated.
Police said Das had hired the attacker and police are probing whether he paid the attacker any money for the job. Das was employed six months ago to milk cows at the temple. However, he was suspected to be involved in some illegalities and was sacked.
The attacker was captured on cameras running away. He is yet to be arrested.
Police suspect the crime was plotted by Das to avenge the sacking. The Kurar police registered a case of attempted murder.
